When we founded
Parnell's Irish Cobs, we committed to breeding quality
Irish Cobs that
excel in type and conformation, but also are capable of working in
harness and under saddle. With that goal in mind, we went to Ireland
in the Spring of 2005 to find the best foundation stock for our
breeding program. After driving more than 2000 kilometers over a
three-week period to visit farms all over Ireland (with 5 adults plus
luggage in a very small car!) we selected the following broodmares
based on conformation, color and disposition. As a key element of our
breeding program, we carefully matched stallions to each mare and
arranged breedings in Ireland. Except for
Laoise, who was brought
over as a two-year old filly, the broodmares were imported in foal in
2005. We have continued to seek the best possible matches for
each of our broodmares at the Irish Rose,
and we are very pleased with the first two foals from our own
stallion, Parnell’s Leannan. Please see the
pages for Parnell’s Caoinlean (2010) and
Parnell’s Si-Gaoithe (2010). We plan to breed
Parnell’s Muireann and
Parnell’s Brenna to our junior stallion,
Parnell’s Glendalough, in 2010.
