Lisdoonvarna,
or "Lizzy" as she is called on the farm, is a GORGEOUS five year old
mare who was imported from Ireland in utero. Sired by the incredible
palomino Gypsy stallion Clononeen Mull of Kintyre
(a.k.a., “Romeo”), Lizzy is out of our most popular brood mare,
Parnell's Roisin. Lizzy is named for the city
in County Clare, Ireland made famous by the Irish folk singer Christy
Moore. With her superior bloodlines, it is no surprise that she has
excellent conformation, loads of type and a double mane and tail. In
short, Lizzy is the finest Irish Cob that we have produced to date,
and she will be the cornerstone of anyone’s breeding program.
Lizzy was started
under saddle by Anthony O’Brien. She rides both Western and English,
and is learning to jump! She was started in harness by Kevin Paul and
Sheila Grange at Driving Horse Connection. Recently, Lizzy has been
helping Geir Kanstad of SilverWhip LLC train her half-brother
Parnell’s Anois to drive as part of a pair. Lizzy and Anois serve as
the leaders for Parnell’s Gypsy Horse four-in-hand! For the past
three years, Lizzy has participated in the annual Long’s Peak
Scottish/Irish Highlands Festival in Estes Park and the Fort Collins
Irish Festival.
Lizzy has also been
ridden in the Denver and Fort Collins St. Patrick’s Day Parades.
Charlie and Jan are in
the process of restoring a 1908 Brewster governess cart, which will be
Lizzy’s primary driving vehicle - check out the new PhotoShows of
Lizzy pulling this cart and the presentation gig. We are very pleased with the results of Lizzy’s showing at
the Continental Divide Horse Show and Gypsy Breeds Classic in August,
2009. Lizzy took blue ribbons in Gypsy Under Saddle English/Western
Walk/Trot Open, Suitability for Dressage Open, In Hand Mares 3 and
Over, and was second in Pleasure Driving Turnout Open. We are
especially proud that Lizzy was named Gypsy In Hand Reserve Champion
Mare, and was runner-up for the High-Point Performance Award from the
American Gypsy Horse Breed Association! We challenge you to find a
mare with more type, conformation and pedigree than Lizzy – let this
elite, award-winning mare take your breeding program to the top!
