Nuala is an eleven year old imported Irish Cob mare standing 14.2
hands high. Her name is a shortened form of the Gaelic name "Fionnuala",
meaning "she of the white shoulders". Nuala is a very sweet and
personable mare that we imported from Ireland in 2005. Nuala is the
dam of Parnell's Anois and
Parnell’s Grainne Ni Mhaille. Nuala is
also our main driving horse, pulling our restored antique Gypsy vardo
in a number of parades and events. Nuala, who was trained to drive by
Kevin Paul and Sheila Grange of Driving Horse Connection, helped us
achieve a milestone on March 15, 2008, when she pulled our restored
antique Gypsy vardo in the Denver St. Patrick’s Day Parade in front of
a crowd of more than 200,000 spectators. She was really styling in
her new Gypsy harness! We are very proud to have been named as the
“Best Equestrian Entry” in the largest St. Patrick’s Day Parade west
of the Mississippi River. (Charlie made his big driving debut behind
Nuala the following year at the 2009 Denver St. Patrick’s Day
Parade!) For the past three years, Nuala has also pulled carts and
wagons in the Long’s Peak Scottish/Irish Highlands Festival held in
Estes Park, CO as well as participating in the Fort Collins Irish
Festival.
Nuala pulled our lovely spindle-back gig in the
Fort Collins St. Patricks’s Day Parade for 2010.
Nuala has been helping train her daughter, Grainne ni Mhaille, to
drive in pairs harness. Nuala and Grainne (Grace) are the wheelers in
Parnell’s Gypsy Horse four-in-hand, along with Anois and Lisdoonvarna
as the leaders.
